INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – On Halloween the amount of sugar a child consumes nearly doubles, according to The Centers for Disease Control. Erin Coleman, a dietitian with Community Health Network stopped by 24-Hour News 8’s studios Wednesday morning to provide tips on how to make Halloween healthier without sacrificing the fun.


The CDC said kids average about 124 grams of sugar per day (about 14 Halloween sized candies). On Halloween that shoots up to about 220 grams of sugar per day.


4 percent of candy consumption is on Halloween. What can parents do to encourage kids away from candy binging? Are there rules you can set or will that make them want candy that much more?
