Wednesday, November 23, 2016

Justine Reel, associate dean of research and innovation in the College of Health and Human Services, has been selected to serve on the editorial board of the International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology.

The journal publishes empirical and theoretical contributions in the science of physical activity, human movement, exercise and sport. Its goals are to promote understanding of sport psychology research and practice around the world; enhance theoretical and practical knowledge in these fields; and promote high-quality scientific and applied work in sport and exercise psychology.

“I am delighted to accept the invitation to serve on the editorial board for the International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology,” said Reel, who is also a professor in the UNCW School of Health and Applied Human Sciences. “Very few individuals represent the United States for this particular journal and it will be exciting to meet top scholars from around the globe at our editorial board meetings. We expect to meet in Spain this coming summer at the International Society of Sport Psychology congress.”

Reel currently serves on five editorial boards for other scientific journals, but has only served as a guest reviewer for the International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology in the past. “It is a true honor to be invited as an editorial board member,” she added.

Reel’s research expertise is psychosocial aspects of sport as well as exercise psychology.

Topics she regularly reviews include exercise and mental health, body image and eating disorders among athletes.

“Faculty members should consider serving as a guest reviewer or on an editorial board for a journal that is meaningful to them,” she said. “It is a great way to interact with other professionals across the globe and to better understand how to write a quality manuscript. This is an exciting opportunity!”
