He's always boasted a tanned complexion.

But Tom Jones looked as though he may have been a tad heavy-handed with the bronzer as he walked the pink carpet at the ITV gala on Thursday.

Beaming broadly as he headed into the event held at The London Palladium, the 76-year-old singer looked strikingly different from his typical self.

Tan-tastic! Tom Jones looked as though he may have been a tad heavy-handed with the bronzer as he walked the pink carpet at the ITV gala on Thursday

As immaculately groomed as ever, the It's Not Unusual hitmaker styled his silver curls in a neat mass, whilst his goatee was defined with not a hair out of place.

Ever the dapper gentleman, he donned a navy suit teamed with a polka dot tie and patent black brogues.

Sir Tom - who lost his wife Linda to cancer in April - walked the pink carpet with Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale - who will also act as one of The Voice when the series moves to ITV next year.

But it was Sir Tom who stole the focus on the red carpet as he strutted past with his extremely tanned complexion.

Last year, the Grammy-winning artist admitted he would be open to having a DNA test to determine whether he is black ancestry.

Throughout his career his hair, tanned complexion and baritone voice led some to believe he is black, with the star revealing that many people told him he was 'just passing as white'.

He explained: 'A lot of people still think I’m black. When I first came to America, people who had heard me sing on the radio would be surprised that I was white when they saw me.

'Because of my hair a lot of black people still tell me I’m just passing as white.'

Sir Tom was born Thomas Jones Woodward in Pontypridd, South Wales, to a traditional coal-mining family – his mother Freda was of Welsh and English ancestry and his father was of English descent.

Recalling an incident shortly after he was born Sir Tom, who is known to tan easily, told The Times magazine: ‘My mother came out in big dark patches all over her body.

'They asked if she had any black blood and she said she didn’t know.'
