NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The 2016 cross country season continues to abound with accolades for University of Notre Dame sophomore Anna Rohrer. On Monday, the Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) announced Rohrer is a 2016 Honda Sport Award Nominee for cross country.
The Honda Sport Award recognizes one female student-athlete from each sport for “athletic achievement as well as scholastics and community involvement” throughout the year. The award is voted on by all member institutions through its respective Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).
Rohrer joins the University of Michigan’s Erin Finn, the University of Missouri’s Karissa Schweizer and the University of Oregon’s Katie Rainsberger as the finalists for this year’s cross country award.
Rohrer finished third overall in the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championship 6K, recording the second-fastest NCAA Championship 6K time (19:44.6) in Irish program history.
The 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference champion, Rohrer is a two-time cross country All-American and has finished in the top 10 at the national meet twice in her short, two-year cross country career.
Notre Dame graduate student Molly Seidel was last year’s Honda Sport Award winner for cross country. Seidel, who returned to Notre Dame for this year’s indoor and outdoor track and field seasons, won the 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championship 6K.
The Honda Sport Award winner for cross country will be announced this week. All 12 Honda Sport Award winners are finalists for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year as well as the Honda Cup, which is presented in June annually.
