Spice Girls fans were teased with their first real insight into newly-reformed 'GEM' on Wednesday night, when one of the singles leaked online.

And now Emma Bunton, formerly known as Baby Spice, has confirmed that the track, Song For Her, was not intended to be their debut single.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline on the red carpet for the Global's Make Some Noise gig, Emma said that she was disappointed it had been stolen.

Disappointed: Emma Bunton has revealed that the GEM single leaked online on Wednesday, Song For Her, was not intended to be their first single

She said: 'We wrote something and it got leaked and it got stolen which is not great but we've had nice feedback.'

Asked if the track was meant to the first single, Emma continued: 'No, it was just a great fun song we wrote together.'

Emma's comments come as she attended Global’s 3rd Annual Make Some Noise Night in London, which raised money to help disadvantaged youngsters across the UK and aims to give a voice to small charities that struggle to be heard.

Created in 2014, it supports projects that help disadvantaged youngsters by raising money and, crucially, giving them a platform to tell their story to millions of people.

Meanwhile, it was announced this summer that former Spice Girls stars Mel B, Geri and Emma will be reuniting as GEM.

The group insisted that their comeback would continue to go ahead, in spite of the exciting news that Geri Horner had fallen pregnant.

Emma even told MailOnline that Geri is 'brilliant' and doing 'really good' when it came to expecting her second child.

The single leaked on the Internet on Wednesday, leading to speculation that it was GEM's first single, with the voices sounding distinctly like those of the iconic pop stars.

Shedding some light: She went on to add that the recordings for GEM were just a bit of fun

The lyrics in the song detail finding a young woman within who seemed to be lost - perhaps alluding to their younger past in the spotlight.

Words from the song include: 'Where is that girl, is she long gone missing? Can't bring her back, but it's just reminiscing... There in the mirror, she's shouting ‘I've been here forever.'

The release of the funky track comes after former bandmate Mel C revealed she and fifth member Victoria Beckham are 'relieved' not to be joining the group.

The girls: Emma, Mel B and Geri are back and better than ever

Mel told the Sunday Post newspaper: 'It was a really hard decision to make. But once it was made I felt very relieved and that proved to me that my instinct was right.'

Mel also admitted that although the ladies shared an amazing and life-changing experience together, they often go for months without speaking.

'There's always an ebb and flow to how much we stay in touch. We have spells of seeing each other and then not speaking for months.

'Family life and career takes over. I'd love to see the girls more and when we do have periods of being in each other's lives, it's lovely,' she explained.

Of Victoria's lack of involvement, she said: 'Victoria had already bowed out understandably with the demands of her fashion label and her rather large family.

'The hardest part for me was letting people down, the girls, the fans, civilisation?! Unfortunately something didn’t feel quite right and I had to follow my gut.'

The Spice Girls formed in 1994 and became one of the world's most popular British pop groups since the Beatles after their debut single Wannabe hit the charts in 1996.

During their nineties heyday, the group managed to sell more than 80million records, making them the best-selling female group of all time.

After a seven year hiatus, they reunited in 2007 and embarked on a global tour and their Greatest Hits album peaked at No.2 on the UK Album Chart.
