Illinois gets $1.3 million grant aimed at mental health coverage - Crain's Chicago Business

(AP)—Illinois has received a $1.3 million federal grant aimed at enforcing laws that require health insurance companies to cover mental health and addiction treatment.

The Illinois Department of Insurance says a portion of the grant will strengthen its data tracking and consumer complaint analysis. The grant will support education for consumers on how they can appeal decisions made by health insurers.

The department's acting director, Anne Melissa Dowling, says the money will help her department raise awareness about its consumer services.

The department plans to work with health insurers, consumers and health care providers to make sure that compliance with mental health parity laws is understood and achieved.
