Gran Turismo Sport Won't Support VR Across the Whole Game - IGN
VR support limited to a dedicated ‘VR Tour’ mode.
Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has clarified that PlayStation VR support for Gran Turismo Sport will be restricted to a dedicated VR mode baked into the game.
“
[T]o do the whole game playable in VR is going to be a strain on the players
“It will be one part of the game,” explained Yamauchi, speaking to Eurogamer. “One thing we discovered in developing and doing the VR, to do the whole game playable in VR is going to be a strain on the players. You can see in the demo downstairs, there’ll be a VR Tour mode that’ll be included in the game. That showcases the VR effects.”
This is in contrast to Sony’s recently released Driveclub VR, which is a complete game of its own although perhaps would’ve sufficed as a more modest add-on to the original title. It’s also in contrast to existing racing games on PC, including Dirt Rally and Project CARS, which can be played entirely in VR if you desire.
The information comes via Sony’s London launch event for the PlayStation 4 Pro, which Yamauchi attended to showcase GT Sport on Sony’s new, improved PS4. 4K and HDR support for GT Sport has also been confirmed.
Gran Turismo Sport was due to arrive this year but was delayed until 2017 to give the team “more time to perfect” the game.
