Genesis adds athletic G80 3.3T Sport trim for 2018 - CNET

Genesis, Hyundai's luxury offshoot, has never been shy about its aspirations to include some sporty models. Now, it's bringing that claim into the real world with the 2018 Genesis G80 3.3T Sport.

As the name suggests, the G80 3.3T Sport packs a 3.3-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which puts out 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. That slots right between the naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 (311 hp, 293 lb-ft) and the 5.0-liter V8 (420 hp, 383 lb-ft). Buyers have a choice between rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

Can't you tell the G80 3.3T Sport is sportier? It's totally sportier.

Complementing the new engine is a whole host of changes to the chassis. The suspension is active, which should aid handling. There are also ventilated rear disc brakes to bring the whole thing to a stop, need be.

There's some bark to match that bite, as well. The 3.3T Sport, um, sports 19-inch dark alloy wheels, dark trim accents, a darker grille and special front and rear fasciae. The interior adds sportier pedals, a thicker steering wheel, sport seats and genuine carbon fiber interior trim.

The 3.3T Sport also packs a fair bit of tech. The touchscreen navigation system is a honker, measuring 9.2 inches. Connected to that is a 17-speaker Lexicon sound system that will assault your eardrums. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard. Rounding out the tech additions are a backup camera, LED headlights and a Qi wireless phone charger. Its Blue Link connectivity suite can work with Amazon's Alexa, as well, allowing you to start or lock the car using voice commands from inside the house.

The 2018 Genesis 3.3T G80 should hit dealerships in Spring 2017.
