Abbey D'Agostino, Atsede Baysa To Receive Good Sport Awards At The Globies - NESN.com

Two women whose acts of sportsmanship were among the feel-good moments of Boston’s sports year will be honored at The Globies with Good Sport Awards.

Boston Marathon champion Atsede Baysa and Olympian Abbey D’Agostino will receive the awards Nov. 14 at the House of Blues Boston.

After winning the Boston Marathon in April, Baysa presented her trophy to Roberta Gibb, who 50 years ago was the first woman to run the Boston Marathon.

Since Gibb’s historic run came at a time when women were not allowed to enter the Boston Marathon, she did not receive a trophy as the first female winner of the race.

“I want to dedicate this trophy to her because she’s an amazing woman,” Baysa said in April. D’Agostino, from Topsfield, Mass., made international headlines when she paused during the 5,000 meters at the Rio Olympics to assist and encourage a fallen competitor, Nikki Hamblin of New Zealand. Hamblin later returned the favor when D’Agostino struggled to finish because of a knee injury.

“Although my actions were instinctual at that moment, the only way I can and have rationalized it is that God prepared my heart to respond that way,” D’Agostino said in August.

“This whole time here he’s made clear to me that my experience in Rio was going to be about more than my race performance — and as soon as Nikki got up, I knew that was it.”

The Good Sports Awards are among four editor’s choice awards presented at The Globies.

Team Impact was named this year’s Community Hero last week, while the Lifetime Achievement and Boston Pride awards will be announced in the next two weeks.
