Democrats sport ObamaCare buttons at inauguration - Fox News

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was in attendance at the inauguration of Donald Trump, but not without some controversy. Pelosi and her Democratic colleagues showed up sporting navy blue buttons to protest Republican efforts to repeal ObamaCare.

Democrats contend the buttons are a message of support, not a political protest.

“Members wanted to wear a sign of solidarity with the Affordable Care Act at the Inauguration. The buttons feature the #ProtectOurCare hashtag, which is the most widely used hashtag in support of the ACA,” said Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill in an email to FoxNews.com

In a tweet sent right before Trump was sworn into office as the 45th president of the United States, Pelosi called it “a symbol of our solidarity and support for the ACA during today's inauguration.”

The repeal and replacement of ObamaCare is a top priority for the incoming Trump administration and congressional Republicans.

Rep. John Lewis of Georgia publicly boycotted the inauguration saying that Trump “is not legitimate president” and more than 60 members of the Democratic caucus followed suit.

Contrary to Pelosi’s statement, George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley sees politics in the accessory.

“Pelosi snatched pettiness from the jaws of dignity by attending while wearing a political button. Regrettable departure from tradition,” tweeted Turley.
